$420,000 Seattle Seahawks game? The New York Giants’ miserable performance in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks didn’t just cost them the game and ensure their first losing season in nine years. It also cost one Seattle car dealership $420,000.
Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way, Washington, is in debt said it would raffle off a dozen $35,000 cash prizes if the Seahawks shut out the Giants on their home turf - something that hasn’t happened in nearly 20 years.
Seattle, one of the top teams in the league, hammered the New York, 23-0 at the Meadowlands. General Manager Mike Gates told KOMO-TV he worked with an insurance and promotion company to run the “Seattle Shutout” event. That means the car dealership won’t be responsible for the entire cost of the jackpot.
Anyone who bought a car Sunday got 100 raffle tickets entered into the drawing. People could walk-in off the street and fill out a form to receive a free raffle ticket, as well.
Gates said the company plans to organize a drawing. Twelve tickets will be drawn and the owners will each receive $35,000. About 20 people bought cars from the dealership on Sunday and 15 people walked in and received a ticket. The odds of a car buyer winning $35,500 are just shy of three chances in five. The company plans to release details on the drawing later Monday. “I’m a man of my word,” Gates told the TV station.
