Abbey Watson sets weight lifting record at the age of 13 after doing all of her working out at DEFY! Powered by CrossFit - Broomfield, CO. and she doesn’t mind showing off just how much she can bench press.
Moreover, Abbey Watson has set 28 different weight lifting records in her weight class at an Oklahoma City competition recently.
Of the 28 records she set 8 were world records. One of the records was for a squat lift of 143.3 pounds.
Abbey can dead lift almost twice her weight and only started working out when she was 10 years-old. She can currently dead lift 176 pounds
Talking about she got into the sport Abbey said her father started taking her to the gym with him and, “I came just to watch. I was wearing my school clothes and they asked me if I wanted to do it too. So, I did one of the workouts and I loved it, so I started coming.”
Coach and trainer Jonathon Sabar, told the Denver Post, “I think the reason Abbey is lifting weight that surpasses adults is because she’s never been told she can’t do it.”
Abbey’s father, Steve Watson, said he had hoped that she would just pick up some good work out habits when he started bringing her to the gym. Now she gets up at 5:30 3 times a week to train and has her sights set on the Olympics.
Abbey, in disbelief herself over her feats and record setting performance said, “I think that if someone would have told me at the beginning of 6th grade I’d be lifting this much, I would never believe them.
