Leslie Frazier named new Vikings Coach. The Minnesota Vikings have fired NFL coach Brad Childress and hired Leslie Frazier. The decision comes after the team suffered their biggest loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The Minnesota Vikings are now with a 3-7 record. Although he paid homage to his fired predecessor, Frazier said Monday was a day of "celebration" for the team as it embraces an opportunity for a second-half renaissance following a dismal start.
Frazier said he didn't want to discuss the problems that led to Childress' dismissal, but wants his players focused on rescuing their season. The new head coach plans to stick with Brett Favre. "This is a day, in some ways, of celebration for our team," Frazier said in a statement. "It's a chance for us to embrace this opportunity we have as a group."
The new Vikings coach also wants his players focused on the next game this Sunday against the Washington Redskins. "Anything else is inconsequential to what we have to do as a group," Frazier said. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf refused to cite specific reasons for Childress' dismissal.
