Tony Hawk has been receiving some flak in the form of criticism over safety issues after posting a photo of him and his daughter together on a skateboard then posting it to his Instagram account.

The photo was taken in Hawk’s 5,000-square-foot backyard skate park and shows the legendary skateboarder holding the hands of his 4-year-old daughter, Kadence Clover, as the two ride down a ramp together. Hawk who is not wearing any protective gear of his own in the photo that was posted, contained a caption that read, “Updated frontside fling photo courtesy of @msk8blake. She is learning to skate on her own, so we might not be doing this much longer.”

The flak Hawk is receiving via Twitter is because Kadence is also not wearing any protective gear, including a helmet.

One Tweeter wrote, “Crash, split, blood! Put a helmet on her, moron!”

Hawk responded to all the criticism he received for the photo by reminding his critics just who he is by saying in the caption of another photo posted to Instagram, “For those that say I endanger my child: it’s more likely that you will fall while walking on the sidewalk than I will while skating with my daughter.”

The now 44-year-old hawk has 4 children in all with three different wives. Kadence is the youngest with current wife Lhotse Merriam.

Hawk, also nicknamed the “Birdman,” is widely considered to be one of the most successful and influential pioneers of modern vertical skateboarding.

On July 27, 1999, Hawk was the first skater to land a “900″, a trick involving the completion of two-and-a-half mid-air revolutions on a skateboard; Hawk was successful on his eleventh attempt. After completing the trick, Hawk commented, “This is the best day of my life.” Nearly twelve years later, Hawk was still able to land the trick and posted a video on his Twitter account stating, “I’m 42 and I did a 900 today.”
