Phishing scams are out there, so always be on alert of the emails you receive. Make sure your account has not been violated. Never respond or click on an email that's asking for you to "update your information."

All banks, at least those that are legitimate, do not send their customers an email asking them to update their account information. Your identity can only be protected if you don't respond to these scams. These scams have one purpose, and that's to conduct theft.

The techniques are called phishing. It's also called clickjacking on social networking sites, such as Facebook. Never give out your credit card number or your social security number online.
