The loyal dog of a fallen SEAL soldier lays in mourning at a casket refusing to leave his owners side. 35 year old Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson was one of the soldiers killed on August 6th when their Chinook helicopter was shot down by a Taliban rocket-propelled grenade. Tumilson was among 30 SEAL’s and soldier’s killed

Tumilson’s funeral services were held last Friday in Rockford, Iowa where 1,500 friends and family attended. Lisa Pembleton, Tumilson’s cousin snapped a picture of the dog named Hawkeye laying in front of the lone casket. Pembleton wrote on Facebook that Hawkeye was Tumilson’s loyal pet who wouldn’t leave his master’s side during the funeral in Rockford, Iowa.

“I felt compelled to take one photo to share with family members that couldn’t make it or couldn’t see what I could from the aisle,” Pembleton wrote.

When Tomlinson’s friend Scott Nichols walked to the front of the room to give his eulogy, Hawkeye followed. As Nichols spoke, Hawkeye dropped to the ground at the foot of the casket and, according to observers, heaved a big sigh. The loyal pooch would not leave his owner’s casket during the funeral.

Family members said that Tumilson and dog were so close that Tumilson would call him “son”. Pembleton went on to post, “To say that he was an amazing man doesn’t do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family, and friends is immeasurable.”
