Heidi Jones False Police Report

Heidi Jones false police report charges after admitting fabricated rape story. Heidi Jones was arrested for filing a false police report. She was also suspended from WABC Channel 7 in New York.

Jones was a WABC Channel 7 meteorologist who reported a sexual assault in Central Park on November 24. She then said that the same man later tried to assault her outside her apartment. The TV station suspended her Wednesday after police say she made the whole thing up.

Police say the 37-year-old later admitted she fabricated the story. She was given a desk-appearance ticket for misdemeanor charges of filing a false report. Heidi Jones' attorney said she is urging people to refrain from jumping to conclusions about the unproven charges against her. She also filled in on "Good Morning America."

WABC said Wednesday that Jones has been suspended pending an internal investigation. According to authorities, she did not report the rape until two months after the alleged incident occurred. If convicted of the Class A misdemeanor of filing a false report, Jones could face up to a year in jail or a $1000 fine.
