Marines Urinating Abuse Caught On Video

Marines Abuse - A video posted on YouTube of what appears to be US Marines urinating on the dead bodies of Taliban insurgents has prompted an investigation from Washington into who the men are.

The video was denounced and called “deplorable” by U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in a phone call to Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai. Karzai had called the video “inhuman” and condemned the actions depicted in it and was looking to have the matter investigated.

In the video as the men dressed in marine fatigues appear to be urinating on men dressed as Taliban fighters, one man is heard saying “Have a nice day, buddy.”

“Such action will leave a very, very bad impact on peace efforts,” Arsala Rahmani, a senior member of the Afghan government’s High Peace Council, told Reuters.

In a statement released by Panetta he said, “Those found to have engaged in such conduct will be held accountable to the fullest extent.”

Though there is concern the video of the apparent marines urinating on the corpse will hamper peace talks in the region, one Taliban spokesman said, “We know that our country is occupied … . This is not a political process, so the video will not harm our talks and prisoner exchange because they are at the preliminary stage.”
