A pregnant woman was hit in what’s called a knockout attack, which is a game that has risen in popularity among teens last year.

According to The Inquisitr, the pregnant woman was walking when the man punched her unconscious in the head. The “knockout game” involves people sneaking up behind random pedestrians and viciously hitting them with a single punch. The New York City police have arrested a Brooklyn man after the pregnant woman was hit.

Willie Stephens, 33, fled the scene after hitting 34-year-old Jannatul Ferdous in the back of the head as she walked with her sister in Bedford-Stuyvesant, authorities told the New York Post. The pregnant woman was hit in a knockout attack as she walked down the sidewalk. Ferdous’ sister called police and described the attacker. Stephens was later captured just a few blocks from the crime scene.

Willie Stephens was charged with assault. Police was able to obtain a surveillance video showing the the pregnant woman getting hit. Stephens can be seen walking swiftly to Ferdous. As he is passing, he decks her in what appears to be her face and walks away while barely missing a step.

The pregnant woman was hit unconscious and was taken to a hospital for treatment. But she and her unborn baby weren’t seriously hurt.

Several people have died over the last year in the knockout attack game. Last May, two teenagers in Syracuse struck 51-year-old Michael Daniels and stomped him to death. A 13-year-old and 15-year-old were arrested in that attack, the Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

Amrit Marajh, 28, of Brooklyn was charged with aggravated harassment in the second degree as a hate crime, third-degree assault, and third-degree assault in December for a knockout attack on a 24-year-old Jewish man in Borough Park as part of a “knockout” attack.

Police say the goal of the so-called game is to knock a target out with one blow. Things could have been bad for the pregnant woman and her baby. Several people have died during the attacks.

The punching occurred on 795 Monroe Street around 3:45 p.m. Thursday when Willie Stephens ran up as the unsuspecting pregnant woman was hit, police say. He then fled before being found by two officers working a summer youth camp in the area on Howard Avenue and Jefferson Street. The pregnant female was taken to a local hospital with a head injury and later released.

While the pregnant woman was hit in a knockout attack, there was another one earlier this week. A 72-year-old man was hit in the West Village. He’s been in the hospital with bleeding of the brain and police are still looking for two suspect.
