Top 10 Most Stolen Cars 2013

The top 10 most stolen cars in the United States for 2013 may surprise you, because the thieves even prefer gas efficient. A new stolen report released by LoJack, a worldwide tracking and recovery system, names the Honda Accord at number one.

Washington state ranked 10th for the most thefts and recoveries in 2013, according to a report from KING 5. “Color is also a factor. Black was the most popular color for recovered vehicles, while the least common color was turquoise,” the report said. It also shows that the oldest car stolen and recovered was a 1963 Cadillac Convertible in 2013.

The 2013 LoJack Vehicle Theft Recovery Report is gathered from data provided by 27 states via The International Justice And Public Safety Network as well as California law enforcement, and is specific to stolen cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System that were recovered between January and December 2013.

“Today’s thieves are highly skilled professionals, and LoJack’s data reveals that stolen cars, trucks and SUVs equipped with the LoJack system were recovered 90+ percent of the time in 2013,” said Patrick Clancy, the Vice President of Law Enforcement for LoJack Corporation. “The latest statistics from the FBI indicate that nearly half of vehicles stolen are not returned to the rightful owners, resulting in millions of dollars in assets lost by vehicle owners. The LoJack system has proven to be a highly effective tool to combat vehicle theft.”
