Chicken Nuggets Recall

Chicken Nuggets Recall Over Contaminated Plastic Materials Shipped In Products

A chicken nuggets recall by Perdue Foods LLC has been announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The incident involves approximately 4,530 pounds of chicken product produced for Applegate Farms, according to The Christian Science Monitor.

The effected nuggets are the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets, produced on Sept. 28, 2015. The 8-ounce boxed packages contain approximately 18 pieces of “Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets” with Best Before Date 09/27/2016.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-2617” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York and Texas, the statement says.

Perdue said the chicken nuggets recall is because the product “may be contaminated with extraneous plastic materials,” the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said in a news release.

There have been no reports of adverse reactions because of consumption of these products, according to the statement.

The problem was discovered when Perdue Foods LLC received consumer complaints of small, solid, clear plastic inside the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets.

It statement also says, “consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

A statement on Applegate Natural & Organic Meats’ website says no other products are affected by the chicken nuggets recall.
